PYC4810 - Psychology Of Work

The content of this module is quite daunting in terms of volume and often unfamiliar concepts, theories and terminology. Also referred to as Organisational  Behaviour (OB) it is multidisciplinary in nature which draws on a wide variety of social science disciplines such as psychology, sociology, anthropology, management, political science and economics.  These concepts are valuable and essential attributes to apply in everyday life, whether students, as employer or employee, consultant, practitioner, in practice or industry.

It is important that students familiarise themselves and gain appropriate knowledge with regard to aspects and theory of human behaviour in an organisational setting, ranging from Leadership, Decision Making, Communication, Team Building, Motivation, Job Satisfaction, Group Dynamics, Conflict to Stress, as well as often abstract organisational processes such as strategic planning, structure and design.

In this regard we guide students to enable them to apply and integrate this knowledge by:

-       Engaging on the relevant topics and providing notes and model answers on the various

prescribed study tasks, as well as the learning objectives, to assist with exam prep.

-       Assisting with 2 written assignments, which consist of a Research Proposal and Research

         Report.

-       Providing guidance in research methodology, sourcing relevant articles, writing of the

proposal and report (i.e. layout, literature review, methodology, results, etc.)
