PYC4804 - Personology

This module forms an integral part of psychology as discipline and of your studies, since it focus on the historical development of psychology and how it evolved to the “science of persons” as we know and apply it today.

​

It is often experienced as quite a challenging and abstract module, focussing on the underlying assumptions, thought processes and patterns in terms of various personality theories. These theories form one of the important corner stones of psychology, and assist in understanding and support other modules such as Psychology of Work, Sport Psychology, Social Psychology, Psychological Assessment, Ecosystemic Psychology, etc.  

 

Apart from gaining sound knowledge of the relevant personality theories, it is also expected of students to become acquainted and skilled in the drafting of psychological questionnaires, based on various personality theories as well as the evaluation thereof in terms of the Interview Review and Rating Scales.

These skills are essential for further studies, since aspects, such as personality theories and psychological interview questionnaires form an integral part whether in practice or industry.

 

Support in this module is provided by means of:

 

1.   Notes, summaries and engaging with the prescribed theories as well as review scales.

​

2.   Assistance with 6 assignments, which include:

 

-   Reviewing of 2 interview questionnaires according to prescribed Interview Review and Rating

     Scales;

-   Drafting of 2 psychological interview questionnaires; and

-   Peer review 2 psychological interview questionnaires.

 

3.  Exam prep consists of extensive practice and revision to prepare for the mock exam, as well as the

      final exam. Interview Review and Rating Scales are ¾ of the exams.
